AmeriCares Outreach

Americares is a global health organisation focused on disaster response. I worked with Americares on a project raising awareness about hypertension and diabetes across India. In India, having diabetes and hypertension has become somewhat of a norm, and often people undermine the significance of these diseases. To fix this approach and mindset, Americares and I decided to make a positive change. Through conducting blood tests across the slums located in Mumbai and other states and cities, Americares aims to raise awareness regarding the issue of diabetes and hypertension and help those unable to get access to appropriate treatment.

Working with them, I educated and entertained underprivileged children by hosting shows and educational games such as hopscotch and Capture the Flag. Furthermore, I assisted with data collection of blood samples for AmeriCare from various slums in Mumbai to test for hypertension and diabetes. I also raised awareness about hypertension and diabetes in slum areas by hosting informational sessions informing the community members about how to interpret their bloodwork and the next steps.
