Medicine and Science Program
Tufts University Mini-Med Program
The Tufts Mini-Med Program is a summer course designed for high school students who are eager to learn more about the medical field. I was a part of the Mini-Med Summer Camp in 2022.
Through this program, I gained in-depth knowledge about bacteria and different types of antibiotics. Along with this, I solved patient cases and diagnosed them with correct bacterial or viral infections. By conducting practical experiments which involved growing different types of bacteria with human samples, I was able to learn about the workings of different bacterial infections and how antibiotics can be used to work against them.
This course allowed me to expand my knowledge regarding the medical field. From talking to professors at Tufts to doctors who work at hospitals I was able to get a glimpse of the medical field and the several aspects it comprises. I enjoyed interacting with cardiologists, ophthalmologists, and even doctors working in the emergency room. Each of these discussions gave me insight into how each specific field within medicine is so unique and vast.
