Kokilaben Dirubhai Ambani Hospital

I interned under Dr. Mandar Nadkarni, HOD Surgical Oncology (Breast and Colorectal Oncology) at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, India for over 45 days. I observed several mastectomy, breast conservation, and robotic surgeries. This internship taught me more about the medical field and deepened my knowledge regarding several medical procedures. From observing OPD to OT procedures, this internship allowed me to interact with medical professionals and increase my knowledge about their lives and challenges.

I also volunteered under Dr. Sandeep Goyal at Chemotherapy Center at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. I co-initiated Chemotherapy patient support group meetings with Dr. Sandeep for encouraging discussions on chemotherapy related challenges and experiences. I interacted with patients, many of them referred from small Indian towns such as Raipur who not only had language barriers but were also overwhelmed by fast life and professionalism of Mumbai. They didn’t understand complex medical language and needed someone to connect with them at personal level. I educated these patients on precautions and benefits of chemotherapy.
